Lost AirPods? This Update Finally Makes The Search Easier.

Apple has quietly rolled out an AirPods update that significantly simplifies the search for the headphones. But only if it is the AirPods Pro or Max. The standard model gets an update but no new search function.

AirPods owners know this: The in-ears like to fall out of the ear and can be challenging to find. The “4A400” update now addresses this problem with the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max – the latter being much more difficult to lose because they are over-ears. Both headphones can now be found using third-party Apple devices via the “Where is?” App on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. This comes from a report by 9to5Mac. After a successful search, the application shows you the location of your AirPods on a map.

Find AirPods: Other Apple Users Help.

The AirPods mentioned could already be located beforehand via the “Where is?” App. However, only as long as they were within the Bluetooth range of the iOS device or Mac paired with them. At further distances, you only saw the whereabouts at which the connection was last established. It’s different after the AirPods update, and you can find the headphones even if someone has taken them with you.

Because as soon as you activate the search, millions of iPhones and other Apple devices help you and transmit the AirPods location if the headphones are within their Bluetooth range. If you are in the immediate vicinity, you can display an indicator that guides you to your headphones – similar to the AirTags, but not as precisely as there is no UWB in the game.

In addition, you can activate the “Lost Mode” and report your AirPods in iOS 15 as lost. After entering your contact details, the honest finder can write to you or call you. In addition, it should be possible to bind the headphones to your Apple ID, which makes it difficult for thieves to set up and use the AirPods on a new device.

How Do You Get The AirPods Update?

Unfortunately, you cannot install the firmware update for your AirPods manually without further ado. Instead, the update takes place automatically at some point when the headphones are in the charging case and near your paired iPhone. Most users, therefore, usually do not even notice that their AirPods have received an update. You can check the status of your AirPods firmware on your iPhone under: “Settings | General | Info | AirPods.” To do this, the headphones must be paired with your cell phone.
